The PM Surya Ghar Yojana, also known as the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna, is a government scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024. The scheme aims to provide free electricity to Indian households by giving a subsidy to install solar panels on their roofs. The subsidy covers up to 40% of the cost of the solar panels. Under this scheme, eligible households can avail of subsidies and incentives to install solar rooftop systems, enabling them to generate electricity and reduce dependence on traditional power sources.

Eligibility for PM Surya Ghar Yojana

Before applying for the subsidy, ensure you meet the eligibility criteria:

  • You must be an Indian citizen.

  • You must own a house with a roof suitable for installing solar panels.

  • You must have a valid electricity connection.

  • You must not have availed of any other subsidy for solar panels.

  • You must comply with technical standards and guidelines specified by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
